The cherry blossom – a symbol of Japan and spring
shares
With the beginning of spring in Japan, a time full of beauty and tradition begins: the cherry blossom.
The delicate pink blossoms of the sakura are not only a beautiful sight, but are deeply rooted in Japanese culture. They represent transience, renewal, and the quiet joy of the moment.
Throughout Japan, people celebrate hanami —the joyful gathering under blossoming cherry trees—as one of the most beautiful traditions of the year. Typical spring sweets are often enjoyed, such as the famous sakura mochi with lightly salted cherry leaves or the colourful sanshoku dango (三色団子) —three small rice balls on a skewer in pink, white, and green. They symbolize spring and are an integral part of the hanami season.
I think these Japanese sweets go particularly well with a cup of green tea, especially in spring.

The new school year begins in Japan in April, during the atmospheric cherry blossom season. A special new beginning that many families celebrate with photos under blossoming trees.
Inspired by this special time, I designed handmade products that capture the colours and atmosphere of Japanese spring.
